Chilliwack RCMP reached new heights to spot distracted drivers during the provincial Distracted Driving enforcement campaign this month.

On September 20, 2018 Chilliwack traffic service officers employed a City of Chilliwack bucket truck to put ‘an eye in the sky’ at the Evans Road round about.  Supported by RCMP Fraser Valley Traffic Services (FVTS), and Chilliwack Safer City distracted drivers were the focus of attention during the two-hour traffic operation.

“We look for distracted drivers from places where we are not always expected,” says Corporal Mike Pfeifer of Chilliwack RCMP.  “Once spotted, the driver is stopped and issued a ticket.”

Chilliwack RCMP remind motorists when behind the wheel, put your phone down, and stay aware of the road ahead.

“Distracted driving is a dangerous practice too often seen on our roadways.  Preventing and reducing distracted driving remains our priority to ensure roadways in our community are safe for the motoring public,” said Corporal Mike Rail spokesperson for the UFVRD.

Tips to prevent distracted driving:

  • Leave the phone alone and minimize potential distractions before you head out on the road.
  • Plan your route and secure your pets.
  • Keep your eyes on the road and hands on the steering wheel.
