Chilliwack:  An alleged driver of a pickup is facing charges after he was arrested by RCMP for a hit and run last week.

The charges stem from a January 26, 2018 incident.  The driver allegedly failed to stop after colliding with two vehicles at Yale Road and Princess Avenue or the RCMP in the 46000-block of Yale Road before the vehicle was abandoned in front of the Provincial Court House.  Officers quickly converged on the site taking 2 individuals into custody.  After a short foot chase the suspect was also arrested.

Brett James Richardson, 40, of Chilliwack remains in custody facing charges of 2 counts failure to comply with probation order, dangerous operation of motor vehicle, and failure to stop at the scene of an accident.  Mr. Richardson was released from custody pending a court date in mid-February.

“Fortunately no one was injured in the collisions.  An alert officer observing the driving behaviour of the suspect vehicle and the timely deployment of police resources were responsible for the apprehension,” says Corporal Mike Rail spokesperson for the UFVRD.

RCMP remind everyone who witnesses anything they believe to be suspicious in nature to contact the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 or, should you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
