missionThere was a public hearing last week at Mission Council about a proposed Silverdale development with a commercial hub and fourth gas station.

Mayor Randy Hawes says some of the main concerns from citizens opposed to the development surrounded the possibility of their well water getting polluted or running dry.

“The proponent has put forward a plan that shows there are safeguards against any deleterious material escaping his property. There is a hydrology report indicating that the chance of him causing other people’s wells to go dry is negligible.”

Hawes says some members of council haven’t had a chance to read through the hydrology report, so they’ve put off a vote on approving the development to the next council meeting.

Mayor Randy Hawes says he’s heard from some people that the area doesn’t need another gas station, but says that’s not up to Council to decide.
