ChilliwackThe City of Chilliwack has had a bylaw since 2011 allowing it to send invoices for when emergency responders are called out on a false alarm, but now that it has new software it can start actually enforcing the bylaw.Deputy director of corporate services Delcy Wells says one of the main sources of false alarms comes from alarm companies.

“What we want is for people who have security systems to make sure that their security companies call them first if there is an alarm. So then the property owner can figure out what’s going on and make a conscious choice if they’re going to call the RCMP or not.”

Wells says they’ll start sending out warning letters in July and August, and then starting in September people will get invoices.
