Handcuffed_hands_(line_drawing)Chilliwack council has approved a resolution that will go the UBCM convention this fall to encourage the province to crack down on prolific offenders. It’s thought that just a small handful of people are responsible for 80% of the crime in the community, and councilor Sue Attrill says there aren’t enough teeth in our current laws to put an end to it.

“As council, we’re really aware that the RCMP resources are repeatedly directed toward dealing with prolific offenders, and we’d like to see something tangible done to deal with crime in our community.”

Abbotsford MLA Darryl Plecas chaired the Blue Ribbon Panel on Crime Reduction, an 87 page report that describes what isn’t working, and calls on the province to make legislative changes on sentencing, and put more effort into tackling substance abuse and mental illness.
