firefrasercanyonIf you’re headed through the Fraser Canyon on Highway 1, watch out for heavy smoke over the next few days.

Fire crews have been conducting controlled burns to solidify the perimeter of the Cisco Road wildfire south of Lytton.

“This is expected to continue for the next three to four days and is expected to put up a lot of smoke… flames may also be visible from the highway,” says Fire Information Officer Kayla Pepper.

She says this is a potential hazard for drivers in the area.

“It’s important for anyone driving through the area that they do not stop on the highway. Instead, if they want to take a look at the fire, pull over,” she explains.

The fire is about 20 per cent contained with 130 crew members involved in the fire-fighting effort.

At last word, 2 homes have been evacuated; 23 are under an evacuation alert.
