On Tuesday with the help of a Sea King helicopter the 147 Airwolf squadron received the engine of a bomber that crashed near Chilliwack in 1945.

The engine will be the centerpiece of a memorial to 11 men who died in the crash, replacing a monument built at the site that has fallen in to disrepair.

Lieutenant Ron Shore says the project is going well.

“The department of veteran’s affairs has given us a grant to redo this monument. They donated $25,000 for the project. We’re also still raising money to bring some of the families over of the men who passed 70 years ago.”

Shore says the memorial will be unveiled September 26th in Thompson Park, just outside of Chilliwack.
