The City of Abbotsford is against it, the FVRD is against it, and even Metro Vancouver is against it…
The Ministry of Energy and Mines says there’s an application to mine part of Sumas Mountain and they’re looking for feedback. It appears to be a 310 acre piece of land, and is located in the Sumas Mtn Inter-Regional Park, and there are concerns, not only around the environmental impact, but also about the wear and tear to city roads. The city says they already have enough quarries to provide enough rock to supply the region for up to 100 years. Metro Vancouver added their voice of opposition to the application this week, because they jointly manage the park with the FVRD.
