FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 3rd, 2024

On December 2nd, just after 4:00 PM, the Chilliwack Fire Department responded to a structure fire within a shop along the 10000 block of McSween Road. Crews en route observed a visible column of smoke.

Firefighters from Halls 1, 2, 4, and 6 quickly arrived on the scene and found smoke and flames emerging from a large shop. Both occupants had evacuated the building. One occupant sustained minor injuries while rescuing one of the family’s three pets.

Firefighters immediately established a water supply and launched an aggressive attack on the fire to minimize structural damage. The RCMP was present to provide support, and BCEHS provided care for the occupants. No injuries to firefighters were reported.

The firefighters successfully rescued the two remaining family pets, both relatively unharmed. The pets were in a secure location behind a closed door, which helped protect them from smoke inhalation. This incident underscores the importance and value of closed doors in reducing the threat of fire and smoke.

The Chilliwack Fire Department is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
