Tourism Chilliwack is taking its Visitors’ Centre on the road as part of an innovative recovery plan following the devastating hit local tourism has taken from Covid-19.

In partnership with Fraserway RV, “Winston”, the nicknamed 25 foot motorhome wrapped in a local outdoors scene, will be going to places where locals and visitors will be hanging out this summer to bring suggestions of things to do and places to see while in the area.

Fraserway RV, an avid supporter of local businesses and tourism for over 50 years, provided the vehicle. Fraserway RV is proud to be your vehicle to adventure in connecting you with all that Chilliwack has to offer. “We are so grateful for their enthusiastic partnership!” says Tourism Chilliwack Executive Director Allison Colthorp.

“We’re not waiting for them to come to us, we’re going to them,” says Colthorp. “Going out into the community and the areas people are, like camp grounds and parks, allows us to share the great experiences and adventures.”

“We have so much to offer and not just for out of Province visitors.  Everyone who lives here needs a break and what better way to refresh yourself than to explore our own backyard.”

The recovery campaign plan, “Return to Good”, is multi-phased and focusses on a gradual approach that is respectful of the Phase 3 re-opening guidelines set out by the Provincial Government.

The campaign plan focuses on a ‘summer camp’ theme.   “Chilliwack is the ultimate summer reward -an ideal destination for exploring, playing, eating or just kicking back.  Let’s reconnect with the nostalgic wonders of nature and rediscover together time.  Let’s go back and start anew” says Colthorp.

The first road trip was Canada Day where “Winston” was set up at Cultus Lake.  “It was a great start and not only did we hand out lots of information and experience ideas, but we sold our Tourism Chilliwack apparel which has been a very popular addition to our offerings,” Colthorp noted.  This initiative builds on the already popular #sharechilliwack campaign.

“We’re ready.  We’re enthusiastic.  Now we hit the road.  And, we are backed by some great organizations and individuals who are essential to our success: The City of Chilliwack, Destination BC, BC Parks, Cultus Lake Park Board, our local tourism partners and the Chilliwack Economic Recovery Network, and our neighbours and friends.”

Tourism Chilliwack will be operating “Winston”, the mobile Visitor Centre Thursdays through Saturdays at high traffic locations including Cultus Lake, Lindeman Lake, Downtown Chilliwack and Vedder Park.
