Ed Sheeran has composed and recorded an original song titled “Under The Tree” for Locksmith Animation’s forthcoming CG animated film “That Christmas.” The movie, which will premiere on Netflix on December 6, is directed by Simon Otto and penned by Richard Curtis and Peter Souter.

The voice cast features an impressive lineup, including Brian Cox as Santa, along with Fiona Shaw, Jodie Whittaker, and Bill Nighy. The plot takes place in a coastal town where Christmas takes an unexpected twist. Based on Curtis’ children’s book trilogy, “That Christmas” represents his first foray into animation. The film is produced by Nicole P. Hearon and Adam Tandy, with executive producers Curtis, Mary Coleman, Natalie Fischer, and Julie Lockhart.

Sheeran commented, “Since becoming a parent, I’ve noticed a lack of great animated Christmas movies for children, so this project felt like something special to bring into the world. The scene we wrote this song for is incredibly moving, capturing the reality many face during the holidays when they can’t be with loved ones. Collaborating with my older brother on this project was a rare and cherished experience, creating something for my children to enjoy, alongside their uncle, in the country where they live. It’s surprising there aren’t more animated Christmas films for kids, but I believe this one will become a holiday favorite, at least in our home.”
