Chilliwack, BC: Construction is scheduled to begin in March on an accessible playground at Sardis Park. The upgraded playground is designed to offer unique play value and experiences for children ages 2-5 and will incorporate accessible features.

The playground will feature an accessible swing, rubber surfacing, ramped entry, and a sun cover for hot summer days. The well-loved existing turtle will be re-incorporated into the new playground and a turtle theme will extend throughout the play area.

“We are committed to improving the accessibility of our parks, and we are pleased to partner with the Chilliwack Mt. Cheam Rotary Club on this project,” said Mayor Popove. “Once complete, this playground will offer another inclusive play space for children in Chilliwack.”

Council awarded the contract for this playground design and construction project at their July 4, 2023 meeting. The Chilliwack Mt. Cheam Rotary Club has generously donated $75,000 toward this $300,000 project.

“Mt. Cheam Rotary Club’s commitment to children and our community continues with the Sardis Park Playground initiative,” said Mt. Cheam Rotary Club President, Leanne Adderley. “Our club is so proud to help bring community together with this newly designed play space with accessible features for children and families to enjoy.”

The new playground is anticipated to be open this summer. To learn more about Chilliwack’s inventory of parks and trails, visit chilliwack.com/parks.
