Fire Destroys Vacant House

At 05:00am this morning, 25 firefighters from Chilliwack fire halls 1, 2, 4, and 6 responded to a structure fire in the 45000 block of Alexander Avenue. When firefighters arrived, they found a two storey residential house with heavy fire at the rear and thick smoke coming out of from a second-floor window.

Firefighters had a tough time gaining access to the rear of the building where the majority of the fire was situated. Once water supply was established, fire crews were able to knock the fire down and protect adjacent buildings.

An excavator was called in to help with salvage and overhaul. The building was taken down due to its instability and safety concerns.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.

The fire is still under investigation by the Chilliwack Fire Dept.

Chilliwack Fire Department would like to remind owners of vacant homes there is an increased risk of property damage including vandalism, theft and or fire damage.  A fire in a vacant home increases the risk to the public and firefighters.
