present-932219_960_720Christmas had a happy ending for a local family that almost didn’t get one, and the community is to thank.

On Christmas Eve, around 10:30pm, Chilliwack RCMP say they received a call about a house on Prest Rd that was broken into, and a number of items were stolen…including presents from under the tree.  The mother and her children, who were obviously shaken by what had happened, went to spend the night with friends.

The victim’s relatives posted what had happened on social media, and it looks like Santa Claus heard the call…

“During the night wrapped gifts, to replace the stolen presents, were dropped off at the detachment by anonymous supporters. Christmas Day we were thrilled to deliver the gifts to the family on behalf of the community,” said RCMP Cst. Courtney Twolan.

Mounties are still trying to find those responsible for the break in, but this was another example of the community stepping up.  RCMP Cst. Mike Rail says Chilliwack is a tightly knit community, and for “residents to quietly step forward to help a neighbor in a time of distress is typical in the area.”
