missionMission mayor Randy Hawes says the list of goals and objectives for current council is going in a bit of a different direction from previous councils.

Hawes says normally the big priorities are public safety and infrastructure, and says this council is putting more focus on parks, recreation, and livability.

“We have announced that that is really our highest priority because we believe if you want to attract businesses, if you want to attract new growth, a lot of the people who come and think about moving to your community first look at what it’s like to live there.”

Another priority is to encourage waterfront development, and Hawes says there are some challenges to getting that rolling.

“Because it’s so fractured, there are so many land holders, small pieces, we need to do a bit of a land assembly. And so we are planning to go down and meet with the various landowners to get them to come together to make an offering out there of a united piece of property that would expedite land assembly.”

Hawes says the District also wants to build a municipal pier on the waterfront, which would hopefully kickstart investment.

The report on goals and objectives is available on the District website here.
