Mayor says landlords should take responsibility for who they rent to

Chilliwack mayor Sharon Gaetz calls this week’s RCMP drug raid on a problem house on Rotary street is a win for the community.

Gaetz says landlords need to take more responsibility.

“We encourage landlords to make sure that they do criminal record checks on people who rent their investment, and that the neighborhood in which the landlord does not reside is safe because of the home that they rent out.”

The raid came after a bunch of media attention on the house, but Gaetz says RCMP have been looking at the house for along time, and says it can take awhile for investigators to get what they need to make a move.
